The new provision applies to road freight vehicles only. This also means that these vehicles or combination of vehicles with a permissible laden mass equal to or less than 2.5 tonnes are excluded. This will imply an obligation for such LCVs drivers to abide by the provisions of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006, which require in summary: (1) Daily driving period shall not exceed 9 hours, with an exemption of twice a week when it can be extended to 10 hours; (2) Daily rest period shall be at least 11 hours, with an exception of lessening to 9 hours, maximum three times a week; (3) Breaks of at least 45 minutes (separable into 15 minutes followed by 30 minutes) should be taken after 4.5-hour at the latest; (4) Weekly rests of at least 45 hours, which can be reduced every second week to 24 hours.
